Kids' Guernica at Manila Japanese School in Philippine
April, 2017
The sixth grade students of Manila Japanese School attached to the Embassy of Japan in Philippine created a Kids’ Guernica peace painting. Philippine was a fierce battlefield during World War II. Manila Japanese School is located in Bonifacio Global City, where a Japanese military base was once build during the war time. The students of Manila Japanese School had an opportunity to learn about the hard life during the war time and thought how the friendship between Japan and Philippine was build. After studying war and peace, they realized such a tragedy of war should not be repeated again and started making a huge painting to express their wish for peace. Each of the students made a picture of peace. Mai Tsunoda’s design was selected after voting. She designed a beautiful lettering of “Smile Every Day” to show her wish; People of all the countries in the world could hold hands together and keep smiling every day. Based on her design, all the students worked together to complete a Picasso’s Guernica size peace painting by acrylic colors.
